About me
Hi, my name is Matt, and I’m an English as a Second Language Teacher from the USA. I have taught English to a wide variety of students in Costa Rica and Peru, and I have over 1000 hours of in-class experience. I currently live in Cusco, Peru and in my personal time, I like to read books, practice Spanish, cook food, and run. My main passion in life is teaching English. There is no better feeling than watching a student progress and succeed. I am passionate about helping others learn language, and I’m excited to work with you! I have a degree in English - Creative Writing from Texas State University and a 120 Hour English as a Second Language Teaching Certification from TEFL.org. I have over 1000 hours of teaching experience. Last year, I taught in person classes with Maximo Nivel Language Academy for 10 months. I worked for Maximo for 7 months in San Jose, Costa Rica, and for 3 months in Cusco, Peru. During this time, I delivered both private lessons and group classes and averaged above 70 % excellent reviews with students. Some of my classes were basic level and intermediate classes focused on grammar and vocabulary, while others where advanced classed focused on writing and conversation. In my private lessons, I focused on the specific needs of students like work related vocabulary, personalized speaking activities, and TOEFL Test Preparation. Since my contract ended with Maximo, I have been teaching as an independent English tutor in Cusco, Peru. Now I teach private lessons of all kinds including basic, intermediate, advanced, conversation, and TOEFL preparation. I have experience working with students and adults of all levels, and I do my best to create each class for the specific needs and interests of the student. For example if one of my students is a waiter, we will practice restaurant vocabulary and restaurant style speaking activities. I will ask the student questions about the menu so they are prepared to answer similar questions at work. On the other hand, if the student is in Finance, we will practice financial vocabulary or do a practice sales pitch in English. My focus is to teach the students the most important and relevant information they need to succeed. I aim to build excellent relationships with my students through conversation, constructive criticism, and careful instruction. I want all students to feel comfortable speaking, making mistakes, and learning from mistakes in my classes. My main goal is to create a positive learning environment where students can learn English as fast as possible. When I first started learning Spanish, I was overwhelmed. It felt like it was impossible to speak a second language. But over the years with consistent practice and many mistakes, I learned more and more Spanish. I have now lived in Latin America for over one year, and I have had an amazing experience in the process. Knowing a second language has helped me in my career and led me to many interesting places around the world. Learning English can change your life too. With English you can get a job, travel the world, and meet new friends from different cultures. I want to help you on your language journey. Hello, my name is Jade Rees and I am a TEFL certified English teacher with 10 years of experience. I am a native English speaker and I've taught English to children and teenagers in school settings, as well as one-on-one sessions with adults. I've helped students prepare for their IELTS and Cambridge exams and I've assisted professionals in various fields in improving their Business English skills. I find that with one-on-one sessions, a combination of content-focused and discussion methods work well for helping the student to improve vocabulary and grammar comprehension without making them feel overwhelmed.
